Jug Creek Marina & Fish House: A True Hidden Gem in Southwest Florida
Note: I am in no way paid for this story or promotion. I’m simply a super fan who wants to share.

Well, it finally warmed up again in South Florida.
JK.
LOL.
OMG.
But seriously — the iguanas have stopped falling out of trees, and we’re back to praying for shady seats while sweating through our clothes at outdoor sporting events.
Even better news? It’s still stone crab season.
With the official season running from October 15 through May 1, there’s still time to crack some claws. And I’ve got just the spot where you can get your fill at a price that feels like it belongs in 2003.
Before the food talk, a quick note for animal lovers: stone crab is considered a sustainable delicacy. Only the claws are harvested, and the crabs are returned to the water alive, where they regenerate a new claw in about a year.
Now… back to the eatin’.
How We Found This Place
We stumbled upon this hidden gem during our most recent Christmas break.
We did things a little differently in 2025. Traditions start shifting as the kids… and parents… and grandparents… all get older. And once the kids figure out the whole Santa situation and start picking out their own presents, changing the rules feels appropriate.
My brother and his family live in Michigan and decided they wanted a different kind of white Christmas — trading snow for sand. When they suggested staying at a condo on a quiet island on Florida’s west coast, we were all in.
After checking into our Airbnb, we quickly realized life on Pine Island moves at a slower pace.
Actually… a lot slower.
Fishing quickly moved to the top of everyone’s priority list, and we lucked out when we discovered a marina within walking distance.
By walking, I obviously mean e-transport.
The Discovery
As we cruised up the gravel-and-shell road to the end of the peninsula, taking in the rustic surroundings, I spotted the gift shop and immediately started planning which cute souvenir I was going to bring home.
FYI: It’s not that kind of gift shop.
While the kids followed a woman outside to the bait tanks, I wandered over toward the bar and spotted a chalkboard sign that looked more like a joke than a real promotion.
It read:

I looked over at the woman netting bait and pointed at the sign. “Is this for real?”
“Yep,” she said. “Every weekend.”
Game. On.
I immediately texted a picture to the family.
Crab Heaven
We spent the afternoon perfecting the delicate balance of pre-crab starvation, then settled into a waterside picnic table just before sunset.
And when those plates of crab started coming…

It felt like we had found a little slice of heaven.

I’ve never seen claws that big in my life. They were the size of my hand. The mustard sauce was perfect. And the sounds coming from our table while we cracked and devoured our first round were borderline offensive.
We probably deserved free t-shirts — or at least a photo on the wall — for the amount of crab we consumed that night.
It was glorious.
